We all have needs -- shelter, food, water, air, and belonging, to name a few.
That said, some equal people lack these basic needs.
Americans are predominantly Christian, and as such, they believe in following the example of the Good Samaritan in the New Testament. They share and share alike, supplying even strangers with basic needs as a brother or sister would. They also believe in the law of the harvest, i.e., they believe equal people reap what they sow as individuals. They do not believe in deserve and deserve alike.
